Dr. Carlos Jiménez Rámila leads the fibroid unit at the Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena. At our Seville clinic we review your case calmly and explain every option, from watchful waiting to treatment.
What are fibroids?
Fibroids (myomas) are benign tumors of the uterus and are very common in women of childbearing age. Many cause no symptoms and only need monitoring.
Most common symptoms
- Heavy or prolonged periods, which can sometimes lead to anemia.
- Pelvic pain or a feeling of heaviness.
- Pressure on the bladder or bowel.
- In some cases, difficulty conceiving.
Options for your case
There is no single answer: it depends on your symptoms, the size and location of the fibroids and your plans for the future. Options may include:
- Regular monitoring.
- Medical treatment.
- Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of uterine fibroids.
- Uterine fibroid embolization.
- Surgery, when indicated.
If you want to understand your situation before deciding, there is the fibroid advisory service.
