Uterine fibroid embolization: assessment in Seville
Uterine artery embolization (UAE), also called uterine fibroid embolization, is an endovascular technique that may be an option for some fibroids. We assess with you whether it suits your case and explain the alternatives.
What is embolization?
It involves blocking, from inside the blood vessels, the arteries that feed the fibroids. With less blood supply, fibroids may shrink and symptoms may improve. It is done without open surgery.
When can it be considered?
In women whose fibroids cause symptoms (heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, pressure on the bladder or bowel) and for whom, after assessment, the technique is suitable.

Is it suitable for every woman?
No. It depends on the type of fibroid, your symptoms and whether you wish to become pregnant in the future.
Are there other options?
Yes: monitoring, medical treatment, radiofrequency and surgery. We discuss them with you.
